Designed by John Browning, the Winchester Model 1887 was the first truly successful repeating shotgun. Browning actually believed a pump action would be more appropriate, but Winchester, best known at the time for their lever action Model 1873 rifle, insisted on the lever action because they were known as "lever-action firearm company", and felt that their new shotgun must also be a lever-action for reasons of brand recognition.
Modern full size Model 1887 lever action shotguns are well known in the realm of Cowboy Action shooting for their speed and reliability, and they are also a traditional favorite in the field. This Bootleg variant, built for Taylors & Co by Chiappa, features an 18.5" barrel with wood forearm and pistol grip.
